Impact

The MIT ORC’s impact can be felt around the world in areas ranging from finance to education to health care. For decades, we have analyzed data to create mathematical models to help individuals and organizations make better, smarter decisions—and to improve society as a whole.

Whether we are helping a health care company predict future costs and improve medical outcomes or affecting systemic change in how the city of Boston assigns students to its public schools, our research streamlines business operations and shapes meaningful policies.

What’s more, we are setting the standard for OR education by attracting faculty who have not only contributed to our field’s most respected journals but have also helmed its professional societies. And they are sharing that expertise with our students—and with those across the globe—by writing the key textbooks used at the vast majority of university OR programs.

Worldwide, MIT ORC alumni lead the field in the top ranks of academia and industry. They are sought after by employers because of the theoretical knowledge and practical experience they have acquired in and out of the classroom—and they are prepared to put that insight to the test in the real world.
